PHOBIAGORA

The new dance project PHOBIAGORA is about fear, more precisely about the irrationality in fear.

This emotion is fascinating and has occupied us intensely since childhood. We like fear, it is attractive and stimulates our imagination. Nevertheless, being afraid does not seem desirable. One should be courageous and overcome one's fears. Only those who manage to do so get the praise they long for.

The project is based on the thesis that every human being suffers from different irrational fears. Even more, that these fears are the breeding ground for some of the individual's character traits.

The abstract concept of "fear" is first felt physically. Literally, we intend to create "places of fear" with the piece. We want to bring fear into the theatre space and explore through dance how individual fears and their causes - be they justified or unfounded - manifest themselves physically. We ask ourselves: does fear have one form? Or many? How does fear move? And do we dare to exhibit our fears concretely in public space - in theatre - through image and dance?

Inspired by the sculptor Louise Bourgeois, who visualised her own fears in her famous "Cells", we explore personal and social fears and try, without judgement, to transform the feeling into something visible and tangible.
